GR Engineering Services (GRES) has announced that it has secured two work contracts with a total value of $312 million over two years from OZ Minerals Musgrave Operations Pty Ltd – a subsidiary of AZ Minerals Limited.

These contract awards will get GRES to undertake the design and construction of the West Musgrave Mineral Processing Plant.

Scope of works of these contracts include:

  • Engineering design, drafting, project management and commissioning
  • Structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation construction works

“We are pleased to have been engaged by OZ Minerals to play a key role in the delivery of the world-class West Musgrave Project. This is an important project for GR Engineering as we have worked with OZ Minerals over many years on projects within the OZ Minerals group, including the West Musgrave Project, and see this award as a strong endorsement of our proven delivery capabilities. We look forward to continue working collaboratively to deliver a safe and successful outcome on the West Musgrave Project,” GR Engineering Managing Director Tony Patrizi said.

The $1.7 billion West Musgrave Project is located in the Musgrave Province of Western Australia, and it includes the Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits as well as the Succoth copper deposit. The project will also include the delivery of a processing plant that will have an initial capacity of 12Mtpa and can be expanded to 13.5Mtpa.

“We’re delighted to be working with GR Engineering on the design and construction of the Minerals Processing Plant for the West Musgrave Project, which is set to be one of the largest, lowest cost, lowest emissions copper nickel projects,” OZ Minerals Projects Executive Debbie Morrow said.

The West Musgrave Project is anticipated to create 1,500 jobs during its construction phase and a further 400 ongoing jobs once operational.

The West Musgrave operations is estimated to produce an average of 35,000 tonnes of nickel and 41,000 tonnes of copper annually for the first five years of its operations, and about 27,000 tonnes of nickel and 33,000 tonnes of copper a year over the remainder of its 26-year mine life.
