OZ Minerals has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract valued at $16.3 million to GR Engineering Services (GRES) for the delivery of works at the Carrapateena copper-gold project in South Australia.
GRES will be undertaking the design and construction of the Northern Wellfield with works to include detailed design, survey, supply, transportation, construction, testing and commissioning for the trunkline and transfer pumping stations development that are associated with four wells at the mine.
“Carrapateena is a globally significant copper-gold development project and our team is looking forward to working with OZ Minerals to make a meaningful contribution to its safe and successful delivery,” GR Engineering’s Managing Director Geoff Jones said.
This project will help in enabling water to be supplied at the currently under construction Carrapateena mineral processing plant - delivered by the joint venture between Downer EDI and Ausenco. GRES is expected to commence works immediately, with completion of works due by the third quarter of 2019.
The Carrapateena copper-gold project is located approximately 160 kilometres north of Port Augusta and the development will comprise of a 4.25Mtpa underground operation that has a mine life of up to 20 years; as well as supporting infrastructure including an accommodation village, airstrip, processing plant and tailings storage facility.
The development of Carrapateena is expected to support up to 1,000 construction and operational jobs.
In April 2018, the project was granted the mining lease by the State Government and was also given the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act approval by the Australian Government, which you can read more about here.
