A second Centenary Bridge at Jindalee is now fully funded, with the Queensland Government committing $112 million towards the project, supported by a $112 million funding commitment by the Australian Government through the 2020-21 Federal Budget.
“COVID-19 has brought construction sites to a halt across the world, but work hasn’t stopped in Queensland because of our strong response to managing the health crisis.
“We have done the work to get the new Centenary Bridge project ready to build and we’ll start working on it next year, supporting hundreds of jobs,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
The State Government has also committed $20 million to get planning and design underway on the new Centenary Bridge.
Construction on the new bridge is anticipated to begin in 2021.
“The Palaszczuk Government kickstarted this project with $20 million to do the business case and detailed design.
“That work is done, so, once the Federal funding flows, we’ll be ready to go out to market and get crews on site as quickly as possible to start building,” Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.
The multi-million-dollar Centenary Bridge upgrade will include:
“Getting the Sumners Road upgrade started was a major priority for my community and building a new Centenary Bridge is the next one.
“[Today’s] announcement means the wait is over and we can start work next year,” Member for Mount Ommaney Jess Pugh said.
The $224 million construction budget for the second Centenary Bridge is jointly funded by the Queensland and Australian Governments on a 50/50 basis.
