Decmil Group has announced that it has secured a $41 million contract for works at Fortescue Metals Group’s (FMG) US$2.6 billion Iron Bridge Magnetite Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The contract award is for the delivery of non-mining process infrastructure at the project site, including the design and construction of a bulk fuel storage and transfer facility; a mobile maintenance complex such as workshops, warehouses and related satellite office; and site service facilities.
The bulk fuel storage and transfer facility is going to be used as a refuelling facility for heavy vehicles while the mobile maintenance complex will feature a heavy vehicle workshop, incorporating locker storage, tool storage as well as an administration area.
“Crucially, this award at such a major project enhances our credentials to potentially secure more work in a resurgent iron ore and magnetite sector,” Decmil CEO Dickie Dique said.
Decmil is expected to begin construction activities this month, with works due for completion by May 2021.
In August of this year, CPB Contractors was also awarded a contract to deliver concrete and detailed earthworks at the Iron Bridge project. You can read more about it here.
The Iron Bridge Magnetite Project is an unincorporated joint venture between FMG Iron Bridge and Formosa Steel IB.
The project is located about 145 kilometres south of Port Hedland and it incorporates the North Star and Glacier Valley Magnetite ore bodies.
Once completed, Iron Bridge is set to produce approximately 22Mtpa of high-grade 67 per cent Fe magnetite concentrate product.
