The Northern Territory Government has awarded a $100 million panel contract to five contractors to carry out works on local roads over the next five years.

The five contractors that secured the panel contract include Downer EDI Works, Boral Asphalt NT, F & J Bitumen Services, NT Bitumen and Asphalt, Top Coat Asphalt and Fulton Hogan Industries.

The awarding of a panel contract will ensure quick, responsive and regular roll-out of bitumen resurfacing works across the Territory’s road networks. The “bituminous works” are going to be carried out in all the Northern Territory’s regions including Central Australia, the Barkly, Big Rivers, Top End regions as well as urban roads in Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield.

“In the Territory our roads are vital lifelines that connect communities, and provide work for Territorians and their families.

“The Territory Labor Government is ensuring quick response time for roads that are damaged and impacted by weather events.

“Sealing roads across the breadth of the Northern Territory is a priority of the Territory Labor Government and makes our roads safer for Territorians and visitors.

“We will continue to invest in our roads, to ensure we continue to improve year round connectivity and unlock economic opportunities here in the NT,” Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Joel Bowden said.

The contract is divided into a series of schedules and its scope includes large asphalt works, large resealing works, smaller asphalt works such as footpaths and car parks, and smaller resealing works.

Awarding a panel contract will cut red tape as well as save businesses time while ensuring asphalting, sealing and resealing works can be rolled out where and when they are needed. The panel contract will also guarantee all Territory businesses can tender for works.
