Ertech wins contract to revitalise WA's Rockingham Beach Foreshore

The Rockingham Beach Foreshore Revitalisation project at the City of Rockingham in Western Australia is set to commence works, with Ertech Pty Ltd signing in as civil engineering contractor for the project.

The $15.748 million Stage 1 revitalisation project will cover three key areas - Railway Terrace, the Beach Plaza and The Boardwalk. Construction will be carried out until 7th December along the entire length of Railway Terrace as well as along The Boardwalk up to Val Street, with works to be put on hold during the busy summer period.

The project site is going to open to the public over the summer school holidays and construction will restart in February 2019.

According to Mayor Barry Sammels, this revitalisation project o the Rockingham Beach Foreshore will breathe new life into the area.

“While there will be some inconveniences during construction, an improved foreshore will benefit both locals and visitors well into the future, becoming a place that is recognised on a local, state and national level.

“It will also enable local businesses to capitalise on the unique features of this location and leverage its increasing popularity into even greater success,” Mr Sammels said.

The project will include upgrading the parking to improve safety together with a new streetscape, artwork and landscaping. These improvements are set to create more opportunities for outdoor dining as well as allow improved pedestrian experience in the area.

The Railway Terrace horseshoe carpark is going to be closed off starting 30th July 2018 and it is going to be transformed into the Beach Plaza - a pedestrian and events area aimed at connecting the City and the beach - that is set to become the focal point for major celebrations and events.

From 6th of August until the end of November of this year, parking on the rest of Railway Terrace is going to be unavailable to focus on engineering works to be undertaken prior to the summer shutdown period.

In addition, The Boardwalk is going to be expanded and upgraded in order to allow more alfresco dining, better movement of pedestrians as well as provide better connection to the north-facing beach on the foreshore.

Mayor Sammels said that the foreshore will remain open to business despite the works on the revitalisation.

“Over the summer holidays the City will still be hosting its much loved New Year’s Eve and Australia Day events as usual with the Christmas lights and Festival being held at Flinders Lane.

“Business will remain open throughout, with pedestrian access also to be maintained around the foreshore,” the Mayor added.

The revitalisation on the Rockingham Beach Foreshore is expected to be completed by September 2019.
