The Victorian Government has commenced the search for a consortium to deliver the $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital, with Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for design, construction, finance and maintenance released to market.
“This is a significant step forward for the Footscray Hospital. We’re getting on with the job of finding the right builder to get the project done - and we’re not wasting a moment.
“This bigger and better hospital will give Footscray’s hardworking nurses and doctors what they need to do, what they do best, care for local families who need their help,” Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos said.
The new Footscray hospital will feature:
The new hospital is going to be built adjacent Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus and it will replace the existing hospital that was built in the 1950s. The new Footscray Hospital is anticipated to open its doors in 2025.
Once operational, it will be able to accommodate an additional 15,000 patients for treatment as well as 20,000 patients to be seen at the emergency department each year.
This project is being delivered through a Public Private Partnership under the Partnerships Victoria Framework. A Community Consultative Committee has also been established to ensure that the local community has a big say over the project.
“It’s essential the community has a big say over the future of Footscray Hospital. We’re making sure locals and health experts tell us what matters to them,” Member for Footscray Katie Hall said.
The new hospital is anticipated to create up to 2,000 jobs during construction as well as during operations.
