“The Gawler Line is our most popular train service with patronage increasing by more than 30% in the seven years to 2016 and we want to keep improving that service and growing patronage,” Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan said.
This tender process is a vital step in the project which is expected to see early works to commence on the electrification of the line between Adelaide and Salisbury by the end of 2017.
The Gawler Line electrification project will include:
“The electrification of the Gawler rail line is a shovel ready project that will have an immediate and tremendous impact for our local economy,” Member for Light Tony Piccolo said.

Early works on Stage 1 of the project is expected to begin by the end of the year and major works to commence by early 2018. The project will support up to 135 jobs annually during its construction phase.
