Downer wins contract to build 349MW Limondale Solar Farm in NSW

Belectric - a subsidiary of Innogy - has awarded the contract to build the 349MW Limondale Solar Farm in New South Wales to Downer Group. This announcement takes the project another step closer to beginning construction.

“We are pleased to be working with Belectric on the Limondale Solar Farm, which will deliver significant economic and environmental benefits for the local community,” Downer’s Utilities business Executive Director Trevor Cohen said.

The Limondale Solar Farm is going to be located near Balranald and it was acquired by Innogy from Overland Sun Farming in February of this year.

Construction of this solar project is expected to create up to 300 to 400 jobs during its peak and up to seven full-time operational positions once the Limondale Solar Farm is up and running.

Once construction is completed, Limondale Solar Farm is expected to be the largest solar farm development in Australia, generating enough renewable energy to power up to 105,000 homes annually.

“We’re delighted to have Downer deliver the Limondale Solar Farm. This is an important project for Belectric, because it marks our clear intention to grow our business in Australia. By partnering with Downer, which bring tremendous experience in renewable energy projects, we know we’re in good hands,” Belectric Managing Director Martin Zembsch said.

In September of this year, Innogy has announced that it has made a final investment decision for the project. Innogy is investing approximately $650 million towards the development of the Limondale Solar Farm, together with the 115MW Hillston Solar Farm - which the company has also acquired from Overland Sun Farming.

With notice to proceed issued to Downer, major construction activities is set to commence later this month. Construction of the Limondale Solar Farm is anticipated to be completed in 2020.
