Downer EDI has been awarded the contract to deliver works on the $40 million Upper Yorke Peninsula road improvements project in South Australia, with construction expected to begin in a few weeks.
This project will be delivering a new roundabout at a key Yorke Peninsula junction, helping ease the flow of holiday traffic. It will also support approximately 75 jobs annually over the two-year construction phase.
“This almost $40m project is a significant investment in the regional road network of the Upper Yorke Peninsula which will provide substantial safety benefits, but also economic benefits for primary producers and local industry,” said Transport and Infrastructure Minister Stephen Mullighan.
The new Copper Coast roundabout will help ease traffic flow during the summer holiday as well as busy long weekend periods for thousands of holidaymakers heading back to Adelaide. The roundabout will also be improving safety at the junction all year round.
The package of works will allow for road train access to the Yorke Peninsula from Port Wakefield, improving productivity in the agricultural sector especially during harvest time.
“The upgrade of this important regional road network will create safer and more efficient regional transport corridors and in turn help local primary producers and industry to become more competitive.
“In particular the grain and livestock farmers, as well as the mining industry, should recognise substantial benefits from this major package of works,” said Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock.
