The Tasmanian Government is staying committed to delivering safer and more efficient roads across the State as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
Consultation is now underway on the designs for the South Arm Road and Acton Road junction upgrade in Lauderdale.
$55 million has been allocated by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments towards the Rokeby Road – South Arm Road Upgrades, which will involve widening the road to four lanes between Pass Road in Rokeby and Oakdowns Parade in Oakdowns.
The South Arm Road upgrades will help improve connectivity and road user safety between many of the growing Eastern Shore communities.
“Improving safety for road users and pedestrians at the South Arm Road and Acton Road intersection is a key priority, and we look forward to listening to community feedback about the proposed changes.
“Later this year we will share designs for further upgrades which will see the road duplicated between Pass Road, Rokeby and Oakdowns Parade, Oakdowns, delivering improved traffic flow, bike paths, bus stops, and alleviate congestion with smoother travel times for road users,” Minister for Infrastructure Kerry Vincent said.
Designs for the junction upgrades can be viewed at the Clarence City Council offices until 28 March 2025 or via an interactive map on the Transport Services website.
Construction in the South Arm Road and Acton Road intersection upgrades is due to commence in late 2025, involving the installation of traffic signals to improve traffic flow and safety for road users entering and exiting Acton Road.
On the other hand, designs to widen the road to four lanes from Pass Road in Rokeby to Oakdowns are being finalised and will be shared with the public later this year.
Future upgrades to duplicate the road from Oakdowns to Lauderdale are in the early planning stages and still subject to funding.
