As works are ramping up on the Carmichael coal and rail project in Queensland, Adani awards two new contracts with a total value of $41.4 million to Decmil.
The first contract - valued at $40 million - will get Decmil to design and build three temporary accommodation camps for the workers that will be involved in the delivery of the Carmichael Rail Network project. The 400-bed camp will be located along rail network corridor.
“This contract means more jobs and economic activity for Rockhampton and regional Queensland. The Decmil team will move in to our Rockhampton office along with Martinus, our track laying contractor.
“Our rail construction crews will live in these camps while they build our 200km-long railway line that will link the Carmichael mine with the existing rail network,” Adani Mining CEO Lucas Dow said.
The temporary accommodation camps will feature air-conditioned rooms, dining messes, gyms and recreation areas which will all help maximise the Carmichael Project workforce’s well-being. The camps are also designed to comply with the high standards of environmental regulation that was set for the coal and rail project.
The second contract award is a $1.4 million Early Contractor Services (ECS) contract that will get Decmil to undertake scoping of bulk earthworks for the primary freight rail alignment. If the ECS is successfully completed, Decmil could possibly be awarded the construction contract.
To date, more than $500 million worth of work contracts have been awarded for the Carmichael Project.
“The operations of the rail camps will be based in Collinsville, earthworks and civil works are coming from Townsville and Rockhampton, fuel supply is from Townsville, telecommunications is from Mackay, and many other regional businesses across regional Queensland are also getting involved,” Mr Dow added.
Businesses that are interested in getting involved in the delivery of the Carmichael coal and rail project are encouraged to register their interest through the Adani website.
“Through our employment and supplier portals people can also see Adani’s, and our contractors’, jobs and work packages being advertised as we progress with delivery of the Carmichael Project.
“We are getting on with the job of delivering our mine and rail project for the benefit of all Queenslanders and in particular people in regional Queensland,” Mr Dow said.
In October of this year, Adani awarded a $100 million contract to Martinus Rail for the delivery of rail tracks for the Carmichael Rail Network - a rail line that will link the mine in Central Queensland to Abbot Point Port located north of Bowen. You can read more about this contract award here.
