A new major milestone has been reached on two of Western Australia’s METRONET development with the announcement of the NEWest Alliance as the preferred contractor for the projects.
NEWest Alliance is comprised of CPB Contractors and Downer and the joint venture will be delivering the Yanchep Rail Extension and the Thornlie-Cockburn Link.
“CPB Contractors is proud to be playing this key role in the landmark METRONET project and to support the ongoing development of Perth as a vibrant, world-class city,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Juan Santamaria said.
“We look forward to working with our partners to deliver this important project for the Western Australian Government and people of Perth,” Downer Chief Executive Officer Grant Fenn said.
The Yanchep Rail Extension will include the construction of a 14.5-kilometre rail line to extend the Joondalup Line from Butler to Yanchep, supporting future growth in the region and help in busting congestion. This project will also include the delivery of three new train stations at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep.
Early works are already underway on the Yanchep Rail Extension and major construction will commence next year. The first trains are anticipated to begin operations on the extended line in 2022.
On the other hand, the Thornlie-Cockburn Link will deliver a 14.5-kilometre rail line that will close the gap in the eastern rail corridor, helping link communities between the Mandurah and Armadale lines. This project will also include the construction of new train stations at Ranford Road and Nicholson Road in Canning Vale together with upgrade works to both Thornlie and Cockburn Central stations.
Early works on the Thornlie-Cockburn Link will begin later this year.
The two METRONET projects are expected to support approximately 3,000 jobs. Once operational, the two projects will be able to provide locals in the eastern and northern suburbs better access to employment and training as well as entertainment and recreation hubs.
