The second stage of Victoria’s Monash Freeway Upgrade is one step closer to beginning construction with the design and construction contract - valued at approximately $761 million - awarded to CPB Contractors.

“CPB Contractors has a strong track record of delivery in Victoria, and we are pleased to be selected to work with the Australian and Victorian governments to deliver this important road upgrade.

“Our absolute priority is the safety of our people and all road users. We will be applying our experience, built over many decades, to safely delivery this upgrade in a live traffic environment,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Juan Santamaria said.

Stage 2 of the $1.4 billion Monash Freeway Upgrade will include:

  • Adding 36 kilometres of new lanes on the Monash and Princes Freeways between Warrigal Road and Eastlink outbound; Eastlink to Springvale Road inbound; and Clyde Road to Cardinia Road in both directions
  • Connecting Police Road to the freeway with an outbound on-ramp
  • Connecting the Jacksons Road outbound ramps directly to Eastlink with a separate road
  • Adding two extra lanes in each direction on O’Shea Road between Clyde Road and Soldiers Road
  • Building a shared walking and cycling path on O’Shea Road between Clyde Road, Berwick and the Princes Highway in Beaconsfield

Construction is anticipated to commence in early 2020 and is due for completion in 2022.

Once completed, motorists will be able to experience safer, faster and easier journeys on the Monash Freeway between Warrigal Road in Chadstone and Cardinia Road in Pakenham.

“The upgrade of the Monash Freeway will improve the lives of many people, saving time and better connecting communities to important employment centres,” CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright said.

In early September, the Monash Freeway Upgrade Stage 2 secured a $367.5 million funding boost from the Australian and Victorian governments. You can read more about it here.
