CPB Contractors to design and construct $512m Logan Enhancement project in Queensland

Queensland’s first Market-Led Proposal — the $512 million Logan Motorway Enhancement Project put forward by Transurban Queensland — has been approved by the Queensland Treasury’s Market-Led Proposal process, and CPB Contractors named the preferred contractor. 

Logan Motorway Enhancement Project

The Transurban Queensland project will significantly upgrade the Logan and Gateway Extension motorways, a vital transport link that connects Logan with Ipswich in the west and the Gold Coast in the south, as well as the Port of Brisbane, Brisbane Airport and Australia Trade Coast commercial development precincts in the north.

Works include upgrading the Wembley Road, Beaudesert Road/Mount Lindesay Highway and Compton Road interchanges; realigning and widening the Logan Motorway to six lanes from Mount Lindesay Highway to the Wembley Road ramp; and widening the Gateway Extension Motorway from four to six lanes between Compton Road and the Logan Motorway.

Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the works will also improve road safety and travel times, as well as create jobs and stimulate the economy. 

“This is a win for the local community, Queensland road users, and especially the trucking industry that has welcomed the project,” Mr Pitt said. 

"The Logan Motorway Enhancement Project will support about 1,300 jobs over its two-and-a-half year construction period, as well as deliver increased productivity and efficiency in South East Queensland’s road freight transport industry. 

"Its economic benefits are estimated to be around $1 billion over 30 years." 

CPB Contractors Managing Director Román Garrido said: “Delivering new and upgraded transport infrastructure within live traffic conditions is a core capability for CPB Contractors, and we will be working closely with Transurban Queensland to ensure our design and construction methods achieve the project’s objectives." 

Revenue to CPB Contractors will be confirmed at contract execution.

Market-led proposals in Queensland

The Logan Motorway project was examined through the staged assessment process of the Queensland governmnet's Market-Let Proposals initiative which offers the private sector an opportunity to fast-track their new project or service ideas. 

In fact, it was one of four market-led proposals (MLPs) worth more than $700 million in total that have progressed to stage 2 of the MLP process and the first to proceed to final binding contract stage. Other MLPs at stage 2 include: 

• Port of Brisbane’s proposal to establish a new international cruise ship terminal;
• plans for a Queensland Aquarium and Maritime Museum incorporating a new aquarium and redevelopment of the existing Maritime Museum at South Bank; and
• RACQ’s proposal to transform the aging Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre into a driving centre of excellence and a world-class innovation hub for government, education and industry groups to research, design and test new vehicle and road safety technologies. 

Transurban Queensland Group General Manager, Wesley Ballantine said the company was proud to present the first market-led proposal under the Queensland Government’s innovative framework.
