Georgiou Group Pty Ltd has been awarded the third and final contract to deliver works on the $104 million Southport-Burleigh Road upgrade. According to Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey, Georgiou will be delivering the Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) as part of this construction package.
“The Australian-first continuous flow intersection will be built at the Salerno Street, Bundall Road and Ashmore Road intersection to tackle congestion,” Minister Bailey said.
Minister Bailey said that as an additional route into Surfers Paradise, a new right-hand turn into Salerno Street will be constructed. Road widening and bridges that include an additional lane in both directions will also be in the works which will increase capacity as well as ensure that the intersection flows freely.
An average of 112 jobs will be created for the entire duration of the Southport-Burleigh Road upgrade project. Works are expected to start soon depending on the weather and construction conditions.
