A major redevelopment of Bunbury Regional Hospital in Western Australia is a step closer to beginning construction as Multiplex Perkins Unincorporated Joint Venture is named as the successful contractor to undertake main works.
This project is the largest redevelopment of a regional hospital in Western Australia’s history, and it has secured an additional funding of $173 million from the 2024-25 State Budget.
“This is an exciting step forward as we move to undertake the biggest ever redevelopment of a regional hospital.
“Bunbury Regional Hospital is an important community healthcare hub for the entire region and the Cook Government’s investment will ensure it meets the needs of the South West community now and into the future,” Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.
The $451 million redevelopment will deliver additional medical and intensive care beds, an expanded emergency department, increased operating theatre capacity, new and expanded maternity, birthing and neonatal services, a dedicated new mental health observation area and expanded mental health inpatient facilities. The project will also provide new clinical equipment including sterilisation and support facilities.
In addition, the works will include the delivery of the first teaching, training and research centre in regional Western Australia.
“I’m excited to see the redevelopment move into a new phase, including detailed design, planning and the commencement of enabling works.
“This redevelopment will include an expanded emergency department, increased theatre capacity, additional beds and expanded mental health facilities, and maternity and birthing services for the region,” Member for Bunbury Don Punch said.
Early critical works on the project, including the construction of a new car park, were completed in 2022.
Once the redevelopment is completed, Bunbury Regional Hospital will be the biggest hospital in regional Western Australia.
