The construction tender for the new multistorey carpark at the Launceston General Hospital has been released to market.
This announcement takes the new carpark a step closer to being built and providing patients, staff and visitors alike with improved access to the hospital.
This project is an important part of the Tasmanian Government’s $647.5 million Launceston General Hospital Masterplan.
“Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are continuing to deliver state-of-the-art infrastructure projects at all major hospitals.
“Improving parking and access to the LGH precinct was a key consideration in the development of the LGH Precinct Masterplan, which will provide world-class facilities for Tasmanians.
“We understand the importance of hospital parking facilities, including for patients coming to their appointments, visitors who may be coming to visit their loved ones and of course our hard-working staff.
“I look forward to seeing plans progress further in the coming months,” Minister for Health Jacquie Petrusma said.
The new multistorey carpark will have more than 470 parking spaces across seven levels. The building will also include secure bicycle parking, a dual head electric vehicle fast charging station, and about ten accessible parking spaces that comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
Major works on the new multistorey carpark will commence in mid-2025 and be completed by late 2026.
While construction is being carried out, a temporary carpark will be provided on the old Anne O’Byrne site at the corner of Howick and Charles Streets.
More information on the construction tender for the multistorey carpark is available on the Tasmanian Government Tenders website.
