Construction set to commence on Bauxite Hills Mine in North QLD

Construction of the Bauxite Hills Mine in North Queensland is set to commence, with all funding required for the development completed by Metro Mining Limited.

The company has raised $38 million to fund the development of the Bauxite Hills Mine – located approximately 95 kilometres north of Weipa on Western Cape York.

“We are fully funded and are now immediately commencing full construction of the Bauxite Hills Mine,” Metro Mining Managing Director Simon Finnis said.

Once fully operational, the mine will employ up to 200 people, with up to 30 per cent indigenous workforce target.

Works will begin immediately, and the mine has a planned production of 2Mtpa – according to Metro Mining’s feasibility study – which will increase to 6Mtpa over the mine’s first four years. The Bauxite Hills Mine has a mine life expectancy of 17 years.
