The Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has given the final approval to the development of the Yamarna Gas Pipeline (YGP).
In line with the project’s approval, APA Group – the project’s main contractor – has also appointed Nacap Australia as the construction contractor for the 198-kilometre pipeline.
Nacap will be establishing a temporary construction camp for 200 people along the route of the pipeline. The company is expected to begin mobilising its workforce on-site to begin works in February.
Construction of the pipeline is expected to be completed by June 2018 Quarter.
Works on a 45MW power station that is going to be connected to the YGP have also commenced, with civil and construction work as well as installation of the generators and gas engines already underway.
Both the YGP and the power station – located 200 kilometres north east of Laverton – are part of the Gruyere Gold Project, a joint venture between Gold Road Resources and Gold Fields.
The pipeline and power station are expected to be commissioned off in late 2018, which aligns with Gruyere’s first gold production set for early 2019.
“A great deal has been achieved in the past 12 months, which is testament to the efforts of the project team and our contractors. With Project engineering 72% complete and construction 32% complete, we remain confident that the Gruyere Gold Project will be brought into production on schedule and within budget in early 2019,” Gruyere Project Director Sim Lau said.
