Construction is now underway on the $64 million upgrade project on the Tumbi Road and Central Coast Highway intersection in New South Wales.
The upgrade will help improve traffic flow as well as safety at one of the most congested intersections along this key coastal road.
“This is a fantastic milestone for everyone who travels around the Central Coast and I’m excited we are able to get on with delivering improvements on the roads we use every single day.
“This upgrade will reduce delays, queuing and improve traffic flow at the intersection, provide more reliable public transport amenities and access, and improve local walking and cycling connections.
“The NSW Government is committed towards keeping our state moving forward through important infrastructure projects like this, which also boosts local workforce employment opportunities right across our region,” NSW Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast Adam Crouch said.
This project is being delivered as part of the 3.8-kilometre Central Coast Highway upgrade between Wamberal and Bateau Bay.
Scope of works will include:
“The NSW Government is building the infrastructure that matters to secure a brighter future for NSW families, communities and industry.
“About 26,000 motorists use this section of the highway daily and we are getting on with the job of improving the way people commute and connect along the coast.
“By widening the highway to two lanes in both directions, the upgrade will ensure the Central Coast Highway is prepared for future growth as we keep our state moving forward,” NSW Regional Transport and Roads Minister Sam Farraway said.
Preparation works are already being carried out, including survey, vegetation management, utilities investigation as well as minor earthworks, new line marking, installation of a temporary pavement, drainage and placement of barriers.
The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-2027.
The Tumbi Road intersection upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments, each contributing $51.2 million and $12.8 million respectively.
“The Australian Government is committed to working with the NSW Government to ensure all road users have the safest and smoothest journeys on the road network.
“The intersection upgrade will reduce delays and improve traffic flow, as well as improve journey and reliability for motorists who travel along this key route.
“It’s an exciting next step as we continue to build the infrastructure that communities in regional NSW deserve,” Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said.
