Construction begins on NSW's $200m Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital upgrade

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital - one of Sydney’s outdated hospitals - is up for a much needed upgrade, with works already underway on the second stage of the hospital’s redevelopment.

This $200 million upgrade will include refurbishing and expanding the Emergency Department, increase the number of psychiatric beds from four to six, 28 bed rehabilitation wards with areas for treatment consultation, as well as a new pharmacy and a mortuary.

The redevelopment project will also be delivering a new multi-storey Clinical Services Building that will feature:

  • An intensive care and high dependency unit
  • A cardiac investigations unit with respiratory / cardiac and coronary care beds
  • Ambulatory care
  • Medical imaging
  • Paediatrics
  • Medical assessment and inpatient units
  • Education spaces - collocated with the University of Sydney
  • Retail space

“Now we will have facilities where we can do MRI scans locally, cardiac procedures locally - it will be great,” Hornsby’s Director of Emergency Clare Skinner said.

The upgrade will be delivering at grade parking facilities and a number of soft landscaping works as well.

In June of this year, Watpac Limited has been appointed to deliver the main building works for the redevelopment.

“We welcome this latest addition to our portfolio and are delighted to be strengthening our relationship with Health Infrastructure NSW through this exciting and complex new project,” Watpac Construction new South Wales State Manager John Koerner said.

Construction on Stage 2 of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital redevelopment is due to be completed in 2021.
