The Clough – AMEC Foster Wheeler Australia joint venture has been awarded a contract – valued at approximately $100 million – to deliver maintenance services at Yara International’s liquid ammonia plant located near Karratha, Western Australia.
The joint venture will be providing maintenance services to Yara’s liquid ammonia plant as well as the adjacent technical ammonium nitrate manufacturing plant on the Barrup Peninsula. The contract is valid for an initial five-year period, with a further five-year extension option.
“The scope includes providing maintenance planning support, supplying management service, supervision, tradespeople, tooling and systems, including the Clough Automated Maintenance system, to perform routine maintenance services and shutdowns at the Yara Pilbara ammonia plant and the TAN plant,” the joint venture said in a statement.
According to Clough Chief Executive Peter Bennett, the joint venture is pleased to have been awarded the contract from Yara.
“Over the past two years, Clough AMEC has worked hard to establish itself in the onshore oil, gas and petrochemical maintenance sector.
“This contract award validates the great work our people have done in delivering fit-for-purpose maintenance solutions, that have a continuous focus on identifying and implementing cost saving opportunities and exceeding operational performance goals,” Mr Bennett said.
Yara Pilbara General Manager Chris Rijksen said that the two plants represent a major investment by the Norwegian company and its joint venture partner, Orica.
“Our investment in Clough AMEC’s expertise ensures further skill sharing and development in Western Australia’s downstream processing sector.
“It also means local jobs for Karratha, which underlines Yara’s commitment to local development in Karratha, via a residential workforce for our Pilbara operations and a $70 million local spend annually,” Mr Rijksen said.
