Civmec wins contract to deliver works on WA's $83m Swan River Bridge

Henderson-based company, Civmec, has been awarded a contract to deliver major components of the $83 million Swan River Pedestrian Bridge project.

Civmec has signed a sub-alliance agreement with the Western Australian Government and the project’s head contractor, York Rizzani Joint Venture, bringing Civmec into the Swan River Bridge Alliance.

“The signing of Civmec represents a significant step forward compared to the contract we had inherited upon entering government,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said

The Alliance – who will be utilising Civmec’s expertise – will be managing the steel fabrication, painting of arches and decks as well as their transportation to the construction site.

Under their contract, Civmec will organise the services of other local companies and workshops that will assist in fabrication works and shop detailing.

This project is expected to create up to 250 local jobs, and completion of the Swan River Pedestrian Bridge is set for March 2018.

“In the process of renegotiation, we have managed to create about 250 local jobs and have gained a clearer line of sight on the delivery of the project.

“While steel fabrication is challenging and complex, and there is a risk that the target completion date may not be met, the advice we have received is that the March schedule can work,” Ms Saffioti said.
