Western Australia’s METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line project is one step closer to construction with the release of a Request for Proposal (RFP) to market for the design, construction and commission of the new rail line.
The main works contract - one of the four biggest works packages for the Morley-Ellenbrook Line - will have a competitive alliance model which will deliver thousands of new local jobs.
“The Request for Proposal for the Morley-Ellenbrook Line marks another significant milestone for this major METRONET project.
“Through METRONET, we have been working with local companies in the lead up to going to market so they can leverage opportunities and maximise local jobs,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.
The best submissions from two consortia will be shortlisted to provide a detailed bid that shows how they plan to deliver the works.
The scope of the main works contract will include the design, construction and commissioning of the 21-kilometre rail track, systems as well as five stations at Ellenbrook, Whiteman, Malaga, Noranda and Morley.
Works will also include bulk earthworks and retaining, structures, grade separations, roads and drainage.
The Morley-Ellenbrook Line will run from the midland Line at Bayswater then up the middle of Tonkin Highway, through land north of Marshall Road, along the western side of Drumpellier Drive (formerly New Lord Street) and ending in Ellenbrook town centre.
The main works contract is anticipated to be awarded later this year and major construction to begin in 2021. In addition, enabling works have already commenced at Bayswater Station and construction is set to begin on Tonkin Gap later this year.
“My Government’s number one priority is local jobs - major METRONET infrastructure projects like the Morley-Ellenbrook Line will create thousands of local opportunities as well as improving public transport options across our suburbs.
“This is a great opportunity for local businesses to be involved in being a part of creating and building Western Australia’s public transport network,” Premier Mark McGowan said.
