Update on Brisbane Airport projects including phase two of the $1.4 billion Parallel Runway project and the recently completed $35 million Overlay Project.
The Ground Improvement Works were delivered in 2 main contracts: the Early Enabling Civil Works by BMD and the Dredging and Reclamation Works by Jan De Nul (Australia) during 2012 - 2015.
The works will establish construction access from Moreton Drive for arrivals onto the NPR site while departures from site will continue to leave via the Central Parking Area (CPA) and Bert Hinkler Drive; The Seawall component includes the reestablishment of a 1720m rock revetment to protect the existing Airport Foreshore at the Northern end of the NPR.
Contract status: Contract awarded to Hall Contracting
Construction of a four-lane underpass to allow vehicular traffic to pass under the link taxiways that connect the NPR system to the existing system and terminals.
Contract status: The $120 million contract has been awarded to McConnell Dowell.
Works are expected to begin in March 2017, with completion set for August 2018. This project is also expected to create up to 300 jobs during construction.
$750 million project that will see more than 100,000 tonnes of asphalt laid on its new 3.3km-long parallel runway.
Contract status: Tender closed last week. Four unnamed construction companies put in bids for the extensive contract. Reviewing the tenders could be an up to nine-month process.
The overlay project provided for new blast protection and shoulder overlay (over existing); New runway primary cable infrastructure outside the blast protection; Runway centre portion overlay; Minor repairs to concrete thresholds; Repairs to Taxiway A7; Repairs to transition pavements; New line marking; Aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) upgrade.
Contract status: Fulton Hogan headed the project and completed all asphalt overlay works.
