BHP has awarded a $757 million contract to CIMIC Group companies CPB Contractors and Sedgman to undertake the delivery of the Western Ridge Crusher Project in Western Australia.
The project involves an end-to-end solution for design and construction of a new 30Mtpa primary crusher (which is separately procured by BHP) as well as a 12-kilometre overland conveyor, radial stacker and associated stockpiling system, which will also have a 30Mtpa capacity.
Both CIMIC companies have worked closely with BHP over a 12-month period to progress engineering, design and long-lead procurement for the project.
Major construction on the Western Ridge Crusher Project will commence by the end of May 2024.
“The unique combination of Sedgman’s mineral processing experience and CPB Contractors’ construction expertise provides our clients with the certainty of a proven track record in the delivery of major process infrastructure in the mining industry,” CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said.
“We are pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with BHP and extensive work with CPB Contractors to deliver value for the Western Ridge Crusher Project. It is an exciting, long-term development in Western Australia,” Sedgman Managing Director Grant Fraser said.
“CPB Contractors has a legacy delivering major project for BHP in Western Australia and a current workforce based in the Pilbara region. We will continue to work closely with the local community to leverage employment, business and social opportunities with a focus on skills, training and diversity,” CPB Contractors Managing Director Jason Spears said.
The Western Ridge Crusher Project was approved for development earlier this year by the BHP Board.
The project is located on Nyiyaparli Country in the Pilbara region, approximately 21 kilometres southwest of Newman.
The facility is anticipated to be completed and ready to begin production in the first quarter of 2027 financial year.
