The Australian Government has invested $31.9 million in 2023-24 that will fix 66 dangerous sites across New South Wales’ road network, continuing its commitment to delivering safer roads across the nation through the Black Spot Program.
The Black Spot Program aims to improve safety at locations where crashes occur or are at risk of occurring through treatments such as pedestrian crossings, guardrails and roundabouts. These treatments will help reduce serious injuries and deaths on Australian roads and get people where they need to be safely.
“I am delighted to announce this funding to fix 66 dangerous spots on New South Wales roads.
“This major investment is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to building safer roads, reducing road trauma, and supporting local jobs.
“We have committed $110 million per year to the Black Spot Program to work with state, territory and local governments to improve road safety across the nation.
“I would also like to acknowledge the Liverpool and Eurobodalla Councils, who have made co-contributions to projects in their areas,” Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Carol Brown said.

Anyone can nominate a Black Spot for consideration and consultative panels have been established in each state and territory, taking responsibility for considering nominations and recommending the highest priority sites for approval.
The consultative panel in New South Wales include representatives from Transport for NSW, the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia, the Traffic Management Association of Australia, Local Government NSW, the NRMA Police Force, the Centre for Road Safety and the Federation of P&C Associations.
“Every accident on our roads is one too many. I was pleased to recommend 66 sites across our State for these crucial road safety upgrades.
“This investment in Black Spot projects will deliver safer roads and safer journeys in New South Wales.
“I encourage anyone who knows of a dangerous intersection or road length that would benefit from safety improvements to consider nominating that site for investigation,” Federal Member for Gilmore and Chair of the New South Wales Black Spot Consultative Panel Fiona Phillips said.

The Western Australian Government is committed to improving road safety across the State, investing another $52 million towards the 2024-25 State Black Spot Program and Safer Roads Program.
The Australian Government has announced 376 priority road locations in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia to receive $107.5 million in Black Spot funding.
Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented times throughout the globe. It has affected the livelihoods of many and plenty of businesses were at a standstill.
By mid to late 2020, Australia was already moving towards recovery and, with this, the Australian Government has invested $110 billion on a 10-year infrastructure pipeline that will aid in the country's economic recovery following COVID-19.
