QLD Government approves Queen’s Wharf Brisbane PDA development scheme

Queensland’s Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Jackie Trad, confirmed yesterday that the QLD Government has formally adopted the development scheme for the renewal of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Priority Development area. This redevelopment project will set Brisbane to see a massive increase in jobs.

“The $3 billion Queen's Wharf Brisbane Integrated Resort Development will deliver a world-class tourism, leisure and entertainment precinct for Queensland.”

Trad announced that the Queensland Government developed the scheme to support up to 2,000 jobs throughout construction as well as 8,000 ongoing jobs.

“This development will transform and rejuvenate the under-utilised south-western edge of the Brisbane CBD, attract significant investment to the city and most importantly, create jobs for Queensland families.” – Ms. Jackie Trad

The development scheme for the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane PDA will provide the planning framework to be used for the assessment of the Destination Brisbane Consortium proposal.

The Brisbane community, residents, and business operators were asked to view the proposed redevelopment plan. 37 written submissions for changes in the plan were submitted. Amendments to the plan were made to resolve the issues raised by the submissions.

“Public submissions to the development scheme supported the area redevelopment, the Government’s commitment to sub-tropical design and heritage protection and the delivery of improvements to the pedestrian and cycling network in the Priority Development Area.” - Ms. Jackie Trad

On the 28th November 2014, Queen’s Wharf Brisbane was declared a Priority Development Area in order to enable the planning and delivery of a casino included in an integrated resort development as well as other related development on the site.

Assessment of all development applications will be done alongside the proposed development scheme. A Design Advisory Panel is included on the final Development Scheme to assist in the delivery of a high-quality project which will benefit all Queenslanders and visitors.

The Queensland Government Architect will chair the Design Advisory Panel where members will be drawn from the Queensland Urban Design and Place Panel.
