Jobs creation for Adani’s Carmichael coal mine, rail and port projects is well underway, with Downer Group – the project’s major mine contractor – touring around regional Queensland to meet with jobseekers.
Over the next few weeks, Downer will be present at a number of employment fairs. Adani is hoping that these roadshows will help create a positive outlook for the region moving forward into the next year.
“As our project continues to move forward, we are excited to bring regional Queensland workers on board to help us start building our mine, rail and port projects,” Adani Australia Chief Executive Jeyakumar Janakaraj said.
Earlier this year, Adani announced that the company will be focusing on local employment for the $21.7 billion Carmichael project.
There are currently five jobseeker events, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. Downer’s recruitment efforts will be focused on Rockhampton and Townsville, which are Adani’s current FIFO hubs for the Carmichael project.
The first event in the calendar is the Gear Up Rocky Job Readiness Expo in Rockhampton (29 November), followed by a series of community engagement roadshows in Woorabinda (30 November), Cherbourg (4 December), Townsville (12 December) and Palm Island (13 December).

Following the announcement that the Carmichael coal project has been fully funded, Adani Group has released to market Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for various jobs on the project, ramping up the company’s recruitment efforts.
Adani Group – India’s largest solar developer – is planning to commence construction on two major solar projects in Australia next year. Both projects are part of the company’s efforts to develop renewal energy projects – with a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts – in Australia within the next five years.
Adani has awarded a new $100 million contract to Martinus Rail for the delivery of a rail link that will connect Adani’s mine in central Queensland to Abbot Point Port north of Bowen.
