$535 million Osborne South Shipyard project in SA to create 600 jobs

LendLease, in partnership with Australian Naval Infrastructure Pty Ltd, has been appointed as the managing contractor for the $535 million Osborne South Shipyard project in South Australia.

Construction of the Osborne South Shipyard is expected to create up to 600 jobs during its peak. Mobilisation works as well as hiring of workers will commence this October 2017.

“For the first time in over a decade we are seeing jobs created at Osborne, with up to 600 construction related jobs to be created on the Osborne South Shipyard project.

“The valley of death is over and we are now seeing an upturn of employment in naval shipbuilding in our state that will only continue to increase as these new projects gain momentum,” Minister of Defence Industry Christopher Payne said.

The Osborne South Shipyard is going to be utilised as a shipbuilding infrastructure which will support the commencement of Future Frigate – a $35 billion project that will build nine frigates – in 2020.

“As an Australian company, LendLease is committed to helping the government realise its vision for a sovereign Australian naval shipbuilding industry. The Osborne naval shipbuilding precinct will create world-leading facilities to deliver the next generation of Australian naval capability, and the project also supports economic growth and local employment in the region,” LendLease Building Chief Executive Dale Connor said.
