Works are underway on Project Alive – also known as the Townsville Airport terminal redevelopment – after it received approval for its Major Development Plan (MDP) back in January 2016 from the Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development.
The project aims to provide a more efficient as well as faster service for travellers, deliver more retail choice, and re-energise and modernise the existing terminal’s facilities.
Key features of the project include:
This upgrade is Stage One of a 10-year multi-staged redevelopment program for the Townsville Airport.
“While improvements have been made and facilities maintained, there have been no significant upgrades to the core airport infrastructure since 2003, leaving us behind other regional airports.
“We have a plant to improve the airport and this will be phase-one of a program of infrastructure upgrades that we will progress over the next 10 years,” said Townsville Airport Chief Operating Officer Kevin Gill.
Construction on the $42 million Townsville Airport terminal redevelopment commenced in April 2017, with a $16 million aircraft parking expansion.
