Through the 2019-20 State Budget, the South Australian Government will be delivering $402 million for two grade separation projects, which will help build infrastructure and bust congestion on State roads.
The two projects are the $231 million Torrens Road grade separation in Ovingham and the $171 million grade separation on Brighton Road in Hove. These projects are equally and jointly funded by the State and Australian Governments.
Scope of works for the Torrens Road project include the construction of an overpass over Gawler and the Australian Rail Track Corporation rail lines. On the other hand, the Brighton Road project will involve upgrading the level crossing on Brighton Road including grade separation of the existing intersection.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said that the two grade separation projects will help remove the notorious crossings along Adelaide’s two busiest train lines.
“The Seaford and Gawler train lines are our most heavily patronised train lines and when the boom gates come day, it frustrates motorists on their way to work or home.
“That’s why we are building these grade separations - to bust congestion and cut travel times,” Mr Knoll said.
The budget for the two projects builds on the $305 million for intersection upgrades that has been committed by the State and Australian Governments, bringing the total congestion-busting infrastructure funding to $707 million.
Projects covered by the $305 million investment include:
- $98 million to upgrade the intersection of Magill Road and Portrush Road
- $61 million to upgrade the intersection of Cross Road and Fullarton Road
- $60 million to upgrade the intersections of Goodwood / Springbank / Daws Roads
- $35 million to upgrade the intersection of Glen Osmond Road and Fullarton Road
- $19 million to upgrade the intersection of Main North Road and Nottage Terrace
- $19 million to upgrade the intersection of Grand Junction / Hampstead / Briens Roads
- $13 million to upgrade the intersection of Main North, Kings and McIntyre Roads
“This massive investment will mean South Australians spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with their loved ones at home.
“Building this infrastructure will support the population growth we are striving for in South Australia,” the Premier said.
