Alinta Energy is pushing ahead with the construction of what will be Western Australia’s largest wind farm - the 214MW Yandin Wind Farm located approximately 4 kilometres south of the town of Dandaragan and 150 kilometres north of Perth.
For the $400 million project, Alinta Energy has appointed Vestas as its engineering, procurement and construction partner.
“Yandin will drive more affordable and cleaner energy for us, and with our gas-fired power stations it will also help us use gas more efficiently.
“That’ll be good for us, our customers and the environment,” Alinta Energy Executive Director for Merchant Energy Ken Woolley said.
The large-scale wind farm is going to be comprised of 51 wind turbines with each having a 4.2MW capacity - enough to generate power for up to 200,000 homes a year.
The Yandin Wind Farm is going to be connected to a 330-kV electricity network through a new 10-kilometre long transmission line and a terminal station that is going to be supplied and operated by Western Power.
Construction of the wind farm is expected to create up to 150 jobs, with works anticipated to be completed by mid-2020.
Vestas will also be operating and maintaining the new wind farm once it has been commissioned.
