A $400 million lithium plant in Kwinana has been proposed by Chinese company Tianqi Lithium – a major stakeholder of Talison Lithium. Tianqi is now seeking development assessment panel approval for the processing facility from the Western Australian Government.
A 20-hectare site will be leased by Tianqi from LandCorp for this development on Mason Road.
Once given the thumbs up, construction will being within a month and operations expected by Tianqi to start in two years

At least 161,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate will be transported by road from the Greenbushes mine to the Kwinana facility once the processing plant is completed. The site is expected to produce almost 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year.
The increasing demand for lithium, and lithium processing facilities, is in response to worldwide consumer demand for quality lithium-ion batteries in electronics and electric vehicles.
