A new luxury development will soon rise in the Gold Coast, which will become part of the iconic Southport Spit.
An expression of interest process was previously held for the Village Centre South project, which was undertaken as part of The Spit Master Plan.
“After a rigorous process, the successful project is a $93.6 million development, including 47 luxury apartments, retail and public spaces.
“The proposal also includes a 52-berth marina that includes three superyacht berths,” Deputy Premier and State Development Minister Steven Miles said.
In addition, the development will adhere to a maximum height of three stories or about 15 metres.

The winning proponent, Gordon Corporation Pty Ltd, estimates that the multi-million-dollar project will support over 300 jobs during a two-year construction period and an additional 100 jobs once operational.
“The two-stage expression of interest process was undertaken to ensure the successful proponent has the capability to deliver the project and that The Spit will continue to be somewhere special.
“We will be working with the proponent and the City of Gold Coast to ensure that this proposal adheres to the City of Gold Coast Planning Scheme, is consistent with the master plan and the preservation of The Spit's natural values.
The Village Centre South project is one of the new developments to be built on The Spit for the first time in decades and this mixed-use development will aid in the Gold Coast's economic recovery.
“As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, building infrastructure and partnering with the private sector is essential.
“This project will provide a $94 million injection into the economy, create jobs in construction and ongoing hospitality and operational jobs,” Member for Gaven Meaghan Scanlon said.

Minister Miles added that the development of the Village Centre South will complement The Spit's offering to both tourists and locals.
“There is so much work underway, soon to begin or completed at The Spit.
“This includes the shared pathway between Seaworld and Doug Jenning Park, Moondarewa Spit foreshore, the Seaway Promenade and pontoon and jetty in Marine Stadium,” Minister Miles said.
Gordon Corporation is a Queensland-based company that has over 30 years of experience in delivering residential as well as commercial and mixed-use projects.
“As a Gold Coast-based company, we are very excited about the prospect of working with the State Government to realise our proposed project, being the first new development in many years on The Spit,” Gordon Corporation Director Tim Gordon said.
Construction on the almost $94 million Village Centre South project is anticipated to commence next year and completed by late 2023.
