A joint investment from the South Australian and Australian Governments valued at $35 million has been committed towards the upgrade of the Glen Osmond and Fullarton Roads intersection - a vital link between the Hills and Adelaide’s CBD.
Once the upgrade has been completed, motorists will be able to see improved travel times, safety, network reliability and productivity along the intersection.
“This intersection upgrade will help cut travel times for motorists as well as help boost economic productivity by improved a key freight corridor,” Minister for Cities, urban Infrastructure and Population Alan Tudge said.
The Australian Government has invested $17.5 million from the multi-billion dollar 2019-20 Budget for South Australian road infrastructure projects. The State Government will also be investing $17.5 million from the upcoming State Budget.
“We are partnering with the Morrison Government to deliver nine new intersection upgrades across Adelaide to cut travel times and bust congestion.
“The Marshall Government is continuing to invest in productive infrastructure which will also help grow our economy and support local jobs, especially in our construction company,” Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll said.
Currently, this intersection caters to approximately 55,000 vehicles each day resulting to unnecessary travel delays. Upgrading the intersection is the solution that the community needs.
“Both Glen Osmond and Fullarton Roads are major traffic and public transport corridors and there is a real problem with traffic delays at this intersection.
“We want to ensure that South Australians are spending less time stuck in traffic and are getting home or where they want to go faster,” Liberal for Sturt James Stevens said.
Early works on the upgrade is anticipated to commence in 2020, with construction due to be completed in 2022.
