The $30 million M5 South West Motorway upgrade at Riverwood in New South Wales is one step closer to construction, with geotechnical investigations to commence later this month and will take up to six weeks to complete.
“The $30 million upgrade, announced mid-last year, will help better link Sydney’s fastest-growing suburbs to the city centre.
“The upgrade will help improve the lives of the thousands of motorists who use the road every day and allow them to spend more time at home with their families rather than stuck in traffic,” said Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher.
According to Federal Member for Banks David Coleman, the upgrade will feature new east-facing ramps at Belmore Road which will allow for a quicker entry and exit. The project will also include improved access to Sydney’s CBD.
“The project is expected to improve access and reduce motorists travelling times, reduce congestion and increase capacity on the M5,” Mr Coleman said.
NSW Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey said that after geotechnical investigations are completed, a review of environmental factors will be prepared and then presented for community feedback late in 2017.
The M5 South West Motorway upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments on a 50:50 basis.
