Motorists travelling on South Australia’s Main South Road between Seaford and Sellicks Beach will soon experience safer journeys as well as an improvement in traffic flow, with the State Government pushing to get underway a planning study for the $305 million Main South Road Duplication project Stage 1.

A select tender process is going to be conducted for the planning study.

“The duplication of Main South Road is an important project that will improve road safety and ease traffic congestion.

“The planning study will, in consultation with key stakeholders and the community, identify issues, undertake investigations and determine a preferred concept for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the duplication,” Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan knoll said.

The first stage of the project will involve duplicating approximately 10 kilometres of Main South Road starting from south of Griffiths Road in Seaford all the way to Aldinga. Scope of works will also include duplicating the Pedler Creek Bridge at Seaford Rise.

On the other hand, the second stage of the Main South Road project will comprise of duplicating a 6-kilometre section of the road between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach.

“Traffic volumes are expected to grow with several future housing, commercial and education developments in the area.

“The project will improve road safety and accommodate the growing residential areas of Aldinga Beach, Sellicks Beach and Port Willunga,” Mr Knoll said.

Construction on Stage 1 of the Main South Road Duplication project is anticipated to commence in 2019. This stage of the project is also expected to support up to 165 jobs a year during its delivery.

Once completed, travelling in and around Adelaide’s southern region will be easier and safer.
