A new major milestone has been reached on Australia's largest road infrastructure project – the WestConnex project in New South Wales – with tunnelling works on the Rozelle Interchange now passing the halfway mark.

The $3.9 billion project also includes the delivery of the Iron Cove Link and this stage of the WestConnex development has already seen up to 9,000 workers getting involved in the works.

“The NSW Government is committed to investing in major road infrastructure projects because we know improving our road network makes a real difference to people's lives, while also providing much needed local jobs at a time when we need them most.

“The Rozelle Interchange is the missing link in the WestConnex Project and, along with the M4-M5 tunnels, will provide connections to the City West Link and the future Western Harbour Tunnel, while also bypassing Victoria Road,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

To date, about 12 kilometres worth of tunnelling works has been completed from the 24-kilometre-long tunnel.

In addition to tunnelling works, plans to transform the old Rozelle Rail Yards into a park are also getting underway.

“We know construction of the Rozelle Interchange is having a big impact on local residents and we thank them for their patience.

“When the project is finished, the new Rozelle Parklands will have green fields for leisure activities, a boardwalk, picnic areas, play equipment, and new pedestrian and cycling paths,” Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said.

The Rozelle Parklands will span 10 hectares with open spaces that will bring life to the Inner West and enjoyed by Rozelle locals as well as the wider Sydney community.

The delivery of Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link is being undertaken by the John Holland and CPB Contractors Joint Venture and managed by Transport for NSW.

Once works are completed, Rozelle Interchange and Iron Cove Link will provide an underground motorway interchange to City West Link as well as an underground bypass of Victoria Road between Iron Cove Bridge and the ANZAC Bridge, with connections to the future Western Harbour Tunnel.

The Rozelle Interchange is on track to be completed by late 2023.
