Stage 2 of the Murra Warra Wind Farm in Western Victoria is now ready for construction as the project developers – Renewable Energy Systems (RES) and Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) - announced the completion of the development phase.
The 38-turbine wind farm will have a generation capacity of about 209MW and will be built adjacent the first stage of the Murra Warra Wind Farm – comprised of 61 turbines – which was acquired by Partners Group in 2018.

“The complimentary partnership between GIG and RES has led to the successful development of a significant and sustainable renewable energy project for Victoria. The completion of Stage 1 of the Murra Warra Wind Farm, and the development to construction of Murra Warra II marks a significant milestone for Australia’s renewable energy future,” Executive Director and Head of Macquarie’s GIG, ANZ Lachlan Creswell said.
In addition to the announcement of development phase completion, contracts for the delivery of the Murra Warra II Wind Farm have also been awarded.
GE Renewable Energy has secured the contracts for the construction and long-term operations of the wind farm, while Zenviron – a joint venture between Monadelphous and ZEM Energy – was subcontracted by GE for balance of plant services which includes civil works and electrical reticulation.
“The Murra Warra II project demonstrates GE’s collaborative partnership with our customers and key suppliers, understanding their needs and expectations and having a unique ability to work across the value chain in onshore wind,” GE Country Leader for Australia & New Zealand Leo Cooper said.
“Zenviron continues to grow with Australia’s renewable energy market. Murra Warra Stage II Wind Farm is our ninth contract award, demonstrating our leadership in the renewable market delivering balance of plant works,” Zenviron General Manager Carl Keating said.
Murra Warra II Wind Farm is located approximately 25 kilometres north of Horsham and once it is operational, it will be able to generate enough clean energy to power up to 150,000 homes as well as reduce carbon emissions by about 500,000 tonnes annually.
Construction on this new large-scale wind farm is anticipated to commence later this year and fully operational by mid-2022.
This project is expected to generate up to 400 full-time equivalent jobs over a two-year construction period as well as provide ongoing employment opportunities over the wind farm’s operational life.
