2000 jobs to be supported by new $300m SA office building construction

A new 20-storey office building at 83 Pirie Street in Adelaide, South Australia is now under construction, and the $300 million project is expected to create approximately 2,000 jobs during its construction phase. 

Cbus Property Pty Ltd will be delivering the new office blockwhich will be the new home for the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT). 

The beginning of construction was marked by a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony, paying respects to the traditional custodians of the land – the Kaurna people. 

“When DIT moves in, the Department will be the anchor tenant and will occupy around 18,500m2, which will reduce the department's footprint and deliver saving s of more than $56 million over the lease term. 

“Not only will this project support thousands of jobs during construction, but it will also save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars over ten years from 2023,” Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Corey Wingard said.

The new 30,645-SQM office building at 83 Pirie Street was designed by Woods Bagot and it will feature a 1,768-SQM floorplates as well as an expansive lobby with an adjoining café and a 500-SQM Wellness Centre. 

The building will also have a rooftop terrace that will be a unique feature separating it from other CBD office towers and it will also enhance the fresh air and collaboration space available to future tenants.

In addition, the new office building is expected to have up to 120 car parking spaces.

“Responding to a future Adelaide workforce with a focus on sustainability, wellness, connection to the public community, nature and productivity, 83 Pirie Street is an incredibly exciting project that will optimise the site's potential and create a new landmark for the city, as well as reinvigorate the city's office precinct,” Cbus Property Chief Executive Officer Adrian Pozzo said. 

Once completed, the new building be able to accommodate approximately 3,000 city workers. 

The 83 Pirie Street development is due for completion in 2022.
