Decmil, a subsidiary of Macmahon Holdings, has been awarded a $123 million contract for road works as part of Covalent Lithium Pty Ltd’s Mount Holland Lithium Project in Western Australia.
Scope of works under this contract will include upgrading the logistics link between the Great Eastern Highway and Covalent Lithium’s Mount Holland operations. This project will involve upgrading approximately 113 kilometres of road, which is expected to be completed in April 2025.
This new contract award builds on Decmil’s Limited Notice of Award (LNoA) in 2023 that involved $59 million worth of works being completed in the 2023-24 financial year.
Work under the full contract award is anticipated to directly create 220 jobs at its peak.
“Decmil is off to a strong start in converting our $11.6 billion tender pipeline having now secured approximately $240 million of new work since Macmahon acquired the business in August 2024.
“The contract award at the Mount Holland Lithium Project is the team’s second major road upgrade project since joining Macmahon, demonstrating Decmil’s strong credentials in this area, and I look forward to the successful delivery of the project for Covalent,” Macmahon Holdings CEO and Managing Director Michael Finnegan said.
Covalent Lithium’s flagship project in Western Australia is comprised of the Mount Holland mine and concentrator alongside the Kwinana refinery.
The Mount Holland mine and concentrator operations are located about 500 kilometres east of Perth and 105 kilometres south of Southern Cross. The project sits on a brownfield area that was previously occupied by the Bounty Gold Operation and was left largely unrehabilitated.
The Mount Holland operations targets a 75 per cent spodumene concentrator recovery as well as an expected output of over 380,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate annually.
