Thousands of jobs are set to be created as well as up to 2,800 new homes to be built in Western Sydney as the New South Wales Government gives the green light to the $1.49 billion redevelopment of the Mt Druitt CBD.

This billion-dollar revamp is one of the first projects to be fast-tracked through the Planning System Acceleration Program – a program that will help fast track processes to get construction underway on jobs-creating projects.

“This project has been three years in the making and marks the beginning of an exciting new future for Western Sydney.

“More than 2,900 construction jobs will be created to build this vibrant new hub, as well as thousands more permanent jobs as the new CBD comes to life,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

In addition to the 2,800 homes, the proposed rezoning project will also deliver new cafes, restaurants, retail outlets and commercial space in taller buildings.

The State Government has worked closely with the Blacktown City Council in amending the Local Environmental Plan to get 24 hectares of land to be rezoned and utilised for more mixed-use commercial and residential development.

“In the past two weeks alone, the Planning System Acceleration Program has injected $1.87 billion in t the state’s economy and created opportunities for more than 16,000 jobs.

“Today’s approval is another exciting step forward for Western Sydney and means development applications for the Mt Druitt CBD can be lodged immediately,” Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said.
