CIMIC Group company Thiess will continue delivering works at the Curragh Mine in Queensland, with the company recently awarded a six-year $1.3 billion contract extension by Coronado Global Resources Inc.

With this contract award, Thiess will go on with overburden removal and haulage, mining and run of mine rehandling services as well as equipment maintenance and pit dewatering works.

The company has been in operations at the Curragh Mine since 2004.

“We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Coronado Resources. Thiess has operated at Curragh for more than 15 years. Over time, we’ve developed a deep understanding of the site and its operations, helping to deliver optimal efficiency, productivity and cost performance. We look forward to continuing this strong record of delivery with the Curragh team,” CIMIC Group Executive Mining and Mineral Processing and Thiess Managing Director Douglas Thompson said.

Thiess will also continue delivering its existing scope of works which includes operation and maintenance of a client-owned 1,400-tonne electric rope shovel and an ultra-class trucking fleet.

The Curragh Mine is located approximately 30 kilometres north of Blackwater in Queensland’s Bowen Basin. The mine produces a number of high-quality low-ash met coal products as well as thermal coal.
